She skims the headlines, smiles at a cartoon showing the foreign head of state’s money tap being turned off and reads various lead articles. On the whole, the media’s response to yes- terday’s decisions by the Federal Council is positive. 08:30 Management meeting. The four-member com- mittee of the Federal Chancellery is made up of the Federal Chancellor, the two Vice Chancellors and the Head of Internal Services. The main item on the agenda is the investment in a disaster-proof IT system available to the executive staff of the Federal Council in extraor- dinary situations. Speaking of extraordinary situations, the Federal Chancellery is also responsible for crisis management training in the federal administration. Post Federal Council meeting, pre Federal Council meeting 10:00 No sooner is one Federal Council meeting over than preparations for the next begin. At the end of every meeting a first version of the agenda for the next meet- ing is already distributed to the departments so that they can prepare for the next meeting. Crisis management training No one is immune to crises – not even governments. The federal government endeavours to be as pre pared as possible to respond to crises. To this end, the Federal Chancellery and the departments provide basic and further training for the members of the various emergency task forces – with the aim of ensuring successful leadership under difficult condi- tions. Training courses are prepared and supervised by the Chancellery’s Federal Crisis Management Training (CMT) section. Internal Services The Internal Services of the Federal Chancellery comprise human resources, finance and accounting, electronic records and process management and logistics, as well as all IT services. In addition, the following services are affiliated to it: the Personnel Security Screening Unit, Legalisations Service and events management at the von-Wattenwyl House and the Lohn country residence in Kehrsatz near Bern. Crisis Management Training Workshops and Courses Services www.bk.admin.ch When the lights go out... The Federal Crisis Management Training (CMT) section regularly conducts training exercises at senior management level, which are known as strategic leadership exercises. One of these leadership exercises involved learning how to deal with the consequences of a total blackout in Switzerland.
