4 Political rights There are few countries in the world where the people can take such an active part in the decision-making process as in Switzerland. Popular initiatives allow citizens to request amendments or add itions to the Federal Constitution. For such an initiative to come about, the signatures of at least 100 000 voters must be collected within a period of 18 months.
